Even though winter can have a mix of weather patterns - one minute fine, the next, not. Blue skies, and storm clouds - light shining though in some spots, creating sunlight spots alongside shadows. Here at Sellicks Hill Beach in South Australia, making for a wonderful place to spend a lazy day, without the usual summer beach crowds during off-season months.
Such was my vision when I went for a drive along the broad beach sands, and spied a couple, earnestly examining their scavenged finds from among the seaweed mounds. And clouds, with sun poking though at times - the cliffs becoming a great reflector of colours and light in the still, mirror-like water of the coastline, contrasting to the waves hitting the shore. Continuing to a backdrop of intense green rural rolling hills - used for various enterprises, and looking very majestic. So, I thought that 'one day I'll paint that'.
This painting certainly shows that beaches can be enjoyed off-season, not just in summer.
I'm glad I did, started in 2019, but now, 5 years later. Applying a more determined effort - there are so many different elements to this, and the eye easily travels though them. And ,to add even more dimension to this, each side is continued around (other than top and bottom, which are painted black - bottom has my signature on it) and it's 3D almost, as if viewing the scene from your window or from the beach. Anyone loving such wonderful beaches should enjoy this one.
While it was very complex and detailed work - took so long to complete (far, far, more than the 'one day' or even one week), I'm proud to offer this as a painting that captures a fleeting moment in time from this wonderful location on Adelaide's southern beaches.
Please note - this is/was difficult to photograph. I'm going to try to get some better images - sorry!
Signed on underside, and back. Painting continued on vertical sides, top & bottom sides are solid black. Ready-to-hang (wire), but can be framed if desired.
