Oil on linen
Signed on the front.
Enlivened by the warmth of the day and refreshed by the creek, the butterflies and dragonflies take to the wing, happily sure of the safety of their cosy corner.
Look close and you'll see something different every time you pause at this piece. I wanted to convey the sense of lightness and activity of the butterflies, flitting above the foliage almost like specs of glitter across the scene. (Did you spot the dragonfly?).
This piece needed to be both soft and strong, quiet yet full of the life I saw at this little creek. The rich deep reds and greens give the dynamics of a complementary colour palette, while layers of soft tones give depth and life to the gentlre neutrals and soft greens of the grasses.
Inspired by a summer day by a little snow-melt creek in the alpine grasslands of Australia's "high country".
This piece is done on unstretched primed fine-weave Italian linen for a superior surface and sustainable option. It will require framing to hang. There is a large margin of material around the painted image to accommodate any framing choice.
