Watercolour on paper
Signed on the back.
I was the little girl who loved gardens and flowers, I'd follow my grandpa around his garden, that he took great pride in. I'll go out of my way to visit gardens, in particular when living in the UK, Europe, and the USA, taking many 1,000s of photos - vowing to paint them 'some day'.
Indeed, when I first started doing actual paintings (always have done art, but didn't formally 'sell' them in public settings until around 2000) some of my first were of house & botanical gardens and flowers. Even winning awards for some of my earliest artworks - one of these hung in a major hospital gallery in Atlanta (Grady). And, indeed, with this, I've gone back to a truly wonderful Japanese style garden that is part of the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. While this isn't plein air (painted on site), I did do several on site when I lived there in the early 2000s (originally from Australia).
I'm so pleased that I finally have painted this one with the wonderful calm and reflective rock pond, and red maple - doing its 'thing' with seasonal change to amazing red shades. Japanese gardens are typical Zen - peaceful and calm, and this oozes with that, I could even sense it as I painted.
Somehow the colours in this dappled sunlit garden are more like precious jewels. A calm and beautiful image that would enhance any wall or furniture top,
My style of painting is my own, and takes many hours. I love the depth and versatility of watercolours, that allow for a 'transparent' feel, but also solid and dense colours - as showing in this work. While the watercolour paper is white, I wanted a very pure and bright white so have incorporated an opaque watercolour (gouache), to depict the sunlight and dappled shade. As the gouache is opaque, it has more 'body' to the paint and so, is slightly raised and textured, adding such perfect highlights. I've also painted this in a less 'realistic' manner - as I didn't want to get hung up on getting 'perfect detailing', as I felt it wasn't necessary - wanting to let the whole image speak for itself.
I paint all mediums, but watercolour seems to be my favourite, as well as some of my art award-winners. And have painted 100s of works in them, particularly smaller and miniature paintings, winning some top awards with them.
Offered unframed.
There is no border allowed for framing, but the painting allows for a small overlap with a mat as per framing by a professional framer - it won't detract from the artwork. Or, for entire image to show, it can be 'float' mounted. Sent flat, not rolled.
All care is taken to represent my artwork, due to monitors, colour, and also size in interior 'in situ' hanging suggestion, can vary. Signed on rear, with COA (Certificate of Authentication) provided.
