I painted this as a loose representation/ semi abstract interpretation of a photo I took of Laguna Bay beach in Noosa. I love the pandanus trees you see everywhere on the Sunshine coast and I really wanted to make them the feature as they give such a beachy, tropical vibe.
I had fun painting the top half of the painting in navy/ indigo blues with paint drips and marks made with sharp tools and blotting papers. I then made the spiky leaves and branches the ‘negative’ shapes by outlining them with sandy/ cream tones.
The hills and beach area are abstract with suggestions of a rocky coast and more tropical vegetation.
This would be a perfect painting for a beach house in the living area/ bedroom or entry foyer. The soft cream and blue tones would complement modern, neutral decor.
